How can I get more kinds of fruit on Animal Crossing City Folk Wii?

I've had the game for about a month, and my town currently only has cherry and pine trees. Once I found a coconut on the beach and planted it, but one day it mysteriously dissapeared. Where/how can I get some kind of fruit other then cherries? Thanks!
