Palm centro hot sync problems?

My phone will randomly pop up with "connecting with the desktop using cradle/cable" when i have nothing inserted or am not running hot sync or ANYTHING. sometimes it does this repeatedly to the point where i have to take my battery out to stop it because everytime i "cancel" it just pops back up again. any explanation?
