Small foreign object in ear c?

Well last night I felt something in my ear, so I used my pinkie finger to try to remove the foreign object from my ear c, when I pulled out a small peice of gunk. It was about 3/4 of a cm tall, as thin as paper, and about 1/4 cm wide, it colored from dark brown to a dark orange and was almost slimy. I think it might have been earwax, but i have never seen it in like a large m like this before. I've only seen it in little bits. So I ask you, what was this and why was it there?
